Description

Aisha Shahid found 1994D-1DER-021WS, whose light trail lines appear as wavy steps beneath columns 4 through 8, bending the stairs at an offset of 180°, due south. The code: 1994D, the year with the Denver mint letter; 1, the cent; DER, TrailDies' reverse design extension; 021, the file; WS, wavy steps. TrailDies' stage A coin has an early-state reverse with nothing noted, paired with a late-state obverse that has small gouges under Lincoln's nose, in the coat collar left of the mint mark, and under the R of LIBERTY. These lines are generally credited to a rotary polishing tool working the die, though some prefer the explanation that the die moved against the hub.
