1994 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-008WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

TrailDies places the light wavy steps of 1994D-1DER-008WS under columns 6, 7 and 8, heavier toward the left, running at 180°, straight down. That is the wavy-step effect: trails crossing the stairs and giving the steps a bent outline. The number reads as Denver 1994, one cent, reverse design extension, file 008 and wavy steps, in that order. The middle-die-state coin has a gouge in the field below IN on the obverse and, on the reverse, one just left of the lower period in the motto. Most observers link wavy steps to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, while some put them down to die movement against the hub.
