Description

On 1994D-1DER-004WS the stairs below columns 5 through 8 bend moderately, more so on the left, and light fluting lines drop under columns 2 and 3 into the stylobate. The offset is 180°, pointing to the bottom of the coin. In the code, 1994D is the year with Denver's mint letter, 1 the cent, DER TrailDies' term for a reverse design extension, 004 the file, and WS the wavy-step type, where trails crossing the steps leave them looking wavy. The late-die-state reverse has a small gouge in the R of AMERICA and a die dot on bay 1's floor. A rotary buff polishing the die is the usual explanation, with die movement against the hub the minority view.
