1994D-1DER-001WS is file 001 in TrailDies' series of 1994 Denver cent reverses with wavy steps. The number gives the year with the D mint letter, the cent's 1, a DER tag for the reverse design extension, the file and WS. Fluting runs into the stylobate on the right, moderately under column 12 and lightly under columns 10 and 11, while the stairs below columns 5, 6 and 7 bend a little, the wavy-step effect of trails crossing them. The direction is 180°, due south. The middle-die-state coin has a gouge under the R of LIBERTY and a small gouge above the left tip of the cornice. Wavy steps are generally thought to come from polishing the die with a rotary tool; some argue instead for movement of the die against the hub.
