Description
1992D-1DER-017T has two sets of trails. The U, N and I of UNITED and the N and E in ONE carry lines running west at 270°, while the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM and AMERI in AMERICA carry lines running north-northeast at 030°. TrailDies' code stands for a 1992 Denver cent (1992D, 1), a design extension on the reverse (DER), file 017 and trails (T). The coin it describes is very late in the die's life, with a small gouge in Lincoln's left jacket lapel and die damage above the first T of STATES. Bill Slaughter found it. Rotary polishing of the die is the explanation usually given for trails; some argue for the die moving against the hub.
