1992-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002
Error
Description
Angled doubling confined to the upper portion of a single Memorial column distinguishes WDDR-002 among the 1992-D Lincoln cent doubled die reverses cataloged by the Wexler team. The secondary hubbing impression deposited extra design material at the top right side of the fifth Memorial column, tilted slightly from the primary impression rather than running parallel to it — an orientation that indicates the hub rotated fractionally during the second impression rather than shifting in a purely lateral or vertical direction. Diagnostic die markers assist with attribution: on the reverse, a die gouge sits between the left cornice and the I in UNITED, additional gouges appear south of the first S in STATES and to the left of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM, and another gouge lies near the bottom of the fifth Memorial bay. No significant obverse markers have been documented. The localized nature of the doubling — restricted to one column rather than spreading across multiple design elements — suggests a minimal degree of hub misalignment, enough to register on the tallest vertical element in that region of the die but insufficient to produce visible displacement on lower-relief surrounding features. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets, 2.5 grams, 19mm, plain edge.
