Description

Between 1992 and 1993, the United States Mint made a subtle modification to the Lincoln Memorial cent reverse hub, and WTRD-001 documents a 1992-D cent struck with the 1993-specification reverse die — a transitional error that places the wrong year's reverse design on a coin bearing the earlier date. This mismatch occurs when a die intended for the following year's production is inadvertently placed into service before the calendar transition, or when leftover new-design dies are mixed into the current year's die inventory.
