Description
1992D-1DER-015T shows trails at 330°, north-northwest, from the U, N, I and T of UNITED, the cornice's left corner, the S and T of STATES and the letters on the left of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Spelled out, the code is 1992 and D for the Denver Mint, a 1 for the cent, then DER, TrailDies' sign that the extension is on the reverse, then its file, 015, and T. On the late-die-state coin it describes, two die dots lie around the R of LIBERTY and the reverse has die damage above the right corner of the cornice. Bill Slaughter found it. Polishing of the die by a rotary buff is the usual explanation; some attribute trails to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C “, obverse is LDS – two die dots are seen around the R of LIBERTY.
- Reverse is LDS – die damage is seen above the right corner of the cornice.
