Description
The trails on 1992D-1DER-010T are very light: they sit at the upper right corners of the E PLURIBUS UNUM lettering, and on AMERICA they are mixed in with metal flow lines. Their direction is 030°, up and to the right, north-northeast. TrailDies' code: 1992D, a Denver cent of 1992; 1, the denomination; DER, a reverse design extension; 010, the file; T, trails. The coin it describes is very late in the die's life, and TrailDies expects an earlier strike from this die would show the trails more clearly. Many light scratches around Lincoln's ear and an old gouge under the U of UNITED identify the pair. Bill Slaughter found it. Polishing of the die with a rotary buff is the usual explanation offered; some attribute the lines to the die moving against the hub.
