1992 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-007WST Trail Die Reverse

Description

1992D-1DER-007WST carries trails in two directions. The code gives a 1992 Denver cent (1992D, 1), DER for an extension of the reverse design, file 007, and WST, wavy steps together with trails. The upper part of the design runs at 020°, north-northeast: E PLURIBUS UNUM, OF, the cornice's upper right edge and AMERICA's first A. Lower down, the designer's initials, CENT and ONE have trails heading due south at 180°. Columns 10, 11 and 12 also have fluting that carries down into the stylobate. TrailDies notes no die markers on the middle-die-state coin. Bill Slaughter of Arkansas found it. Trails are most often explained as the marks of a rotary buff polishing the die; a minority view sees the die moving against the hub.
