Description
1992D-1DER-004T has trails running due west, at 270°, toward the left edge of the coin. Short, moderate lines leave the tops of the letters of UNITED and continue into STATES, where S, T, A, T and E show some extension of their own; fainter lines touch the letters on the left of E PLURIBUS UNUM. TrailDies' code breaks into 1992D (date, Denver), 1 (cent), DER (reverse design extension), 004 (file) and T (trails). The middle-die-state coin can be checked by a gouge below Lincoln's chin and a small die dot inside the M of UNUM. Bill Slaughter of Arkansas found the die. Trails are usually attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some think the die moved against the hub.
