1992 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-002WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Strong is the word for 1992D-1DER-002WS. The fluting of columns 1, 2 and 3 runs well down into the stylobate, and the steps beneath columns 5 to 8 bend strongly, most on the left. Those bent stairs are the wavy steps the WS stands for, trails crossing the staircase of the Memorial. The direction is 180°, due south. TrailDies' code otherwise gives a 1992 Denver cent (1992D, 1), DER for the reverse design extension and 002 for the file. On the middle-die-state coin described, the obverse has a gouge lying below the B and above the R of LIBERTY; on the reverse there is a gouge inside the loop of AMERICA's R and one midway down bay 4. Bill Slaughter of Arkansas found it. Most see trails as the work of a rotary buff polishing the die, though some argue the die moved against the hub.
