Description
1991D-1DER-001T is a 1991 Denver cent reverse with trails, numbered by TrailDies as date plus D, then 1 (one cent), DER (reverse-side extension), file 001 and T. The trails are light and isolated, coming only from the E and N of CENT and pointing east, at 090°, toward the right edge of the coin. The entry pairs a very late obverse with an early reverse. On the obverse, a gouge leaves the lower left leg of the R in LIBERTY and two more flank the 1 of the date; on the reverse, a light scratch sits in the angle where the left edge of the cornice meets the roof. Bill Slaughter found the die. Trails are generally explained as marks from a rotary buff polishing the die, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “A”, obverse is VLDS – die gouge from the bottom left leg of the R in LIBERTY. Two die gouges around the 1 digit of the date.
- Reverse is EDS – light die scratch in the corner formed by the left cornice edge and the roof of the Memorial building.
