Description

Exhibiting hub doubling that spreads toward the rim, WDDR-003 of the 1991-D Lincoln Memorial cent produces extra thickness on ONE CENT, the E dot P configuration in E PLURIBUS UNUM, the tops of the Memorial shrubbery flanking the building bases, and the designer's initials. This spread pattern — radiating outward from the design center — is characteristic of a Class V clockwise or counterclockwise rotational hub doubling where the pivot point sits near the center of the die. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1991D-1DR-001 and Wexler 1991-D 1¢ WDDR-003, this variety carries attributions in two major cataloging systems. Die markers on the obverse and reverse provide additional confirmation points beyond the doubling itself, helping attributors distinguish this die from the other five cataloged doubled die reverses for the 1991-D date. Struck at Denver on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm. Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge can be found below the left side of the E in LIBERTY. A die gouge can be found to the left of the lower N of IN. A die gouge can be found above the right side of the 1st 9 in the date. Reverse: A die gouge can be found inside the lower N in UNITED. A short, vertical die gouge can be found to the right of the upper S in PLURIBUS.
