1970 (S) Proof Washington Quarter - Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as RPM-007 (UVC-1857, DMR-010), this 1970-S Proof Washington quarter presents an S/S Tilted repunching, completing the four-variety group of tilted-S repunched mint marks cataloged for the 1970-S Proof date. Three die stages are documented. Stage A is provisionally early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B is provisionally mid-die state, unconfirmed. Stage C is provisionally late die state, unconfirmed. The 1970-S Proof Washington quarter was struck at San Francisco for annual Proof sets. RPM-007's UVC-1857 code places its obverse die within the VarietyVista die inventory, while DMR-010 identifies the specific reverse die marker profile that separates this variety from RPM-004, RPM-005, and RPM-006. Each of the four tilted-S varieties for 1970-S shares the common feature of an angularly offset secondary S impression but carries a distinct die marker footprint that enables precise attribution. Collectors examining 1970-S Proof Washington quarters for repunched mint marks should consult the full die marker profiles for all four tilted varieties to ensure accurate identification, as the tilt angles alone may be similar between adjacent varieties.
