Error
Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this second cataloged RPM for the 1970-S proof Jefferson Nickel shows an S/S North (Proof) displacement — the directional opposite of RPM-001's southward shift for the same date. Die markers UVC-445 / DMR-004: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Specimens are needed for new color digital photographs. The northward displacement means the initial S was placed too low, with the corrective punch establishing the final position higher. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, struck at the San Francisco Mint. Both RPM-001 and RPM-002 existing for the same date confirms that punch misalignment occurred in opposite directions across different dies.
