Error
Description
Holding the primary catalog position for the 1970-S date, this VarietyVista-documented proof Jefferson Nickel shows an S/S South (Proof) displacement from the San Francisco Mint. Die markers UVC-444 / DMR-003: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). Specimens are needed for new color digital photographs per the cataloger. As RPM-001, this was likely the earliest discovered or most prominent repunched mintmark for the date. Composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1970-S proof nickel was struck exclusively for collector sets. The southward S displacement indicates the initial punch landed slightly north of the intended position.
