1970 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1970-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1970-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a Class V clockwise (CW) spread from a pivot near 8:00. It shows on STATES OF AMERICA, the upper oak leaves and UNUM, and more slightly on the torch flame and on ONE DIME. Obverse Stage A has SW/NE die scratches in the space separating LIBERTY's Y from the hair over the front of the forehead. On Obverse Stage B, nearly vertical scratches appear left of the lips, nose and eyes. On Reverse Stage A, the first U in PLURIBUS carries a small die gouge along its inner left side, and another small gouge lies left of the tip of the oak leaf that sits right of the upper bands. By Reverse Stage B, north-south scratches pass through the E and P of PLURIBUS, and other scratches run from the second A in AMERICA to the right dot. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
