1970-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Exhibiting medium spread on UNITED, ONE DIME, AMERICA, and UNUM, this 1970-D Roosevelt Dime DDR-002 affects four major reverse inscription groups simultaneously. Die markers include UVC-537 and DMR-004. Three die stages have been identified: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B with both reverse and obverse at early-to-mid die state; and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The confirmed early-to-mid die state at Stage B offers the best opportunity for clean attribution before die wear begins to obscure the doubling. Roosevelt Dimes from the Denver Mint in 1970 were struck on the copper-nickel clad composition that had replaced the ninety-percent silver alloy after 1964. The broad distribution of the spread across multiple inscription groups — spanning both the upper and lower reverse — suggests a significant hub displacement that affected the entire die face rather than being localized to one region. Collectors should examine all four inscription areas to confirm the variety.
