Description
Cross-referenced as FS-501 in the Cherrypickers' Guide, this 1969-S Proof Washington Quarter features an S/S/S North, South triple-punched mintmark documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-1189 / DMR-004: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C obverse and reverse LDS. The triple-punched S shows North and South displacements, with three S impressions stacked vertically. The FS-501 listing confirms this as a recognized variety actively sought by collectors. Repunched mintmarks on proof coins are inherently less common because proof dies received more careful handling than business strike dies. Flanagan's design was struck as a proof at San Francisco in copper-nickel clad weighing 5.67 grams at 24.26 mm. Confirmed LDS at Stage C indicates late-state proof specimens have been documented.
