1959 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-001

Description

1959-D WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1959-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as RPM-001. Both describe it as D/D North, a secondary D north of the primary, and both cite it as FS-504 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1959D-504). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a short gouge touching the upper right of the first 9 of the date on the obverse. On the reverse a N/S scratch passes through the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM and the O of ONE, strong N/S scratches lie between the R and I of PLURIBUS and right of its L, a NE/SW scratch sits right of the upper torch, and N/S scratches cross the oak branch. The die was submitted by John Bordner and John A. Wexler, with upgraded photos taken from a coin Eric Axtell submitted. CONECA lists it as RPM #1. Wexler notes that Bordner's notes mention three die stages, submitted by Bordner and Wexler, that were never photographed or described and for which no records survive; the current stage of the same die stands in for them, and further stages will be added if found. VarietyVista does not name a reporter. Under its marker codes UVC-326 and DMR-002, stage A (an early die state) and stage C (a late die state) are unconfirmed, and at stage B both sides are in a middle die state.
