Error
Description
Holding the lead catalog position for the 1949-S Jefferson Nickel, this RPM-001 documented by VarietyVista displays an S/S Rotated CCW (counterclockwise) displacement. Die markers: UVC-371, DMR-002. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: Reverse and obverse are MDS. Stage C: Reverse is LDS; light die crack in upper back hair — LDS. The rotational displacement creates a non-parallel overlap where separation varies around the S's curves depending on distance from the rotation axis. The late-stage hair crack documents structural fatigue in Jefferson's portrait area. Felix Schlag's design was struck at San Francisco in 75% copper, 25% nickel (5.0 g, 21.21 mm). The 1949-S had approximately 11.9 million pieces, a relatively modest mintage for the series.
