1947 Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-001

Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1947 Lincoln wheat cent with a medium spread on the date, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, Lincoln's eyelid and the vest. Both catalogs give the Cherrypickers number FS-101 (21.3), which Wexler writes FS-01-1947-101 (021.3). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties calls it a Class I clockwise spread on LIBERTY, the date, the letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, Lincoln's eyelid, the front of his coat and his front curl of hair. It notes no significant obverse markers. On the reverse an ENE scratch starts at the center of the inside left of the O in ONE, a SW-NE scratch lies below the second A in AMERICA, and many light SW-NE scratches cross the letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. John A. Wexler submitted it. CONECA lists it as 1-O-I and Coppercoins as 1947P-1DO-001. VarietyVista credits Delma K. Romines with the report. Under its marker codes UVC-1750 and DMR-002, early stage A and late stage C are unconfirmed, and stage B has both sides in a middle die state.
