1947 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004
Error
Description
Exhibiting a very strong extra eyelid to the south of Lincoln's normal eyelid, DDO-004 on the 1947 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent belongs to a category of doubled dies where the doubling manifests most dramatically on a single anatomical feature. Extra-eyelid varieties are among the most visually accessible Lincoln Cent doubled dies because the eyelid provides a smooth contour where even moderate misalignment produces an unmistakable secondary line — and this example is described as very strong, indicating the separation is pronounced enough for visibility under low magnification. Assigned UVC-1753 and DMR-005 within the VarietyVista framework, the variety is systematically cataloged with codes confirming the specific die. Two die stages are documented: Stage A at Early Die State and Stage B tracing the die's continued use. Philadelphia struck 190.5 million Wheat Cents in 1947, providing ample production from which doubled dies could emerge. The southward eyelid displacement indicates the hub's secondary impression was shifted downward. Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDO-004.
