1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

As the lead RPM for the 1947-D Washington Quarter, this variety was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-0649 / DMR-005. Three stages: Stage A EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C LDS with a die crack down the eagle's right wing, a die crack across the bust, and a die crack across the upper hair. These three Stage C cracks span both faces, with the reverse wing crack and two obverse portrait cracks revealing extensive structural fatigue in the die pair's final service period. No directional displacement is specified. Flanagan's design was struck at Denver in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. As RPM-001, this was likely the first discovered or most prominent RPM for the date. The simultaneous cracks on both dies document how the pair reached failure thresholds at the same point in production.
