1947 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002 / DDO-003

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-101, the 1947-D Roosevelt dime DDO-003, which Wexler numbers WDDO-002, is a doubled die obverse with spread on its date and designer's initials. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number as FS-10-1947D-101. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a strong CCW spread on the designer's initials and the date. Wexler examined a coin in a late die state and notes that an earlier state may show added doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse two short parallel scratches run north from the upper left of the earlobe. On the reverse a small gouge sits between the tops of the L and U of PLURIBUS, a short scratch runs ESE from the lower right of the torch beneath the second U of PLURIBUS, and a short gouge juts off the first U of UNUM on its left side. Tony Russo submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 3-O-V. VarietyVista, crediting Richard Bateson, describes a medium spread on the date, the designer's initials side by side, and extra thickness on IN GOD WE TRUST. Under its marker codes UVC-157 and DMR-012, stages A and B (early and middle die states) are unconfirmed, and at stage C both sides are in a late die state.
