Description
Strong spread toward the center on the designer's initials, the lower neck, the date, and the back of the neck. Class V doubling shows on LI of LIBERTY and IGWT from a pivot at 1:00. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. NE/SW die scratches in the field west of the brow and forehead area. Obverse Stage B: Two very light, S by SE die scratches from the bottom of the nose toward the lips. Diagonal die scratches between the lower W and E of WE. Obverse Stage C: Stage marker weak to gone. Die chip (dot) above the left side upper R of TRUST. NE/SW die gouge at the bust above the date. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mintmark. The reverse has an RPM variety that is listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 10 ¢ WRPM-003. It is an S/S Southeast. Die gouge in the field west of the lower area of the flame. Die scratch running SW from the bottom of the first U in PLURIBUS. Die scratch beginning at the upper right top of the N of UNUM and running SW through the N and the branch. Reverse Stage B: Weaker Stage A markers. Die gouge at the bottom of the 2nd U of UNUM. Reverse Stage C: Stage A markers weak to gone. Die crack at the upper M of AMERICA to the rim.
