Error
Description
A spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY, the forehead, and the eyelid. A weaker spread towards the center shows on IGWT, the designer's initials and the date. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. Die gouge between the head and the rim at 12:30. Die gouge from the left lower inside of the B in LIBERTY. Die gouge west from the top of the 6 in the date. Small die gouge (dot) SE of the jaw and neckline. Obverse Stage B: Die gouge at head and rim still present. Die gouge at the B in LIBERTY still present. Die gouge from the 6 abraded away. Obverse Stage C: All previous stage markers gone except the chip between the head and rim and a faint trace of the dot below the jaw line. Much of the doubling is weaker. Obverse Stage D: Stage C markers still present. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet Tail Mintmark. Die scratch north from the left upper side of the N in UNUM. Die scratch south from the stem of the lower olive. Die gouge on the lower area of the flame. Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers still present but weaker. Reverse Stage C: All previous stage markers gone except the gouge on the torch flame. Two short SW die scratches from the lower olive stem. The mintmark shows a larger opening from abrasion. Strong NE/SW die scratch through the upper olive. NE die scratch from the left upper side of the first U in PLURIBUS to the olive branch Reverse Stage D: Weaker abraded die scratch through the upper olive. Die gouge still present on the torch flame. Die scratch from the U in PLURIBUS nearly gone. Die scratches from the lower olive stem very weak.
