1946 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1946-S WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling on LIBERTY is a close Class II spread that runs toward the center. The obverse is Type I. Here, from the head's lower back, strong scratches run SSE, and a small gouge sits under LIBERTY's B on its right side. The reverse has a Trumpet Tail mint mark and is itself a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1946-S WDDR-009, whose close Class II spread, also toward the center, is on ONE DIME and UNITED. Left of the upper D in DIME is a NNW/SSE scratch. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Its comments say it was formerly WDDO-023 and was renumbered when the doubled obverse working hub, WWHO-001, was found and left large gaps in the listings.
