Description

A Class II spread towards the center shows on LIBERTY and the profile. Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Type I. Strong E/W die scratch through the front of the hair. Two short die scratches south from the upper lip. Die scratch north from the right side horizontal bar of the 4 in the date. Small dies scratch NNW inside the lower circle of the 9 in the date. NE/SW die gouge on the lower left side of the Y in LIBERTY. Obverse Stage B: Stage A markers are weaker and the scratch from the 4 is gone. Reverse Stage A: Trumpet tail mint mark. The reverse of this variety is an RPM listed in the Wexler RPM Files as 1946-S 10¢ WRPM-010. It is an S/S Northeast. The reverse is also a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1946-S 10¢ WDDR-003. A close Class II spread towards the center shows on AMERICA, ONE DIME and UNUM. Series of N/S die scratches through the right-hand leaves, on the right side, heaviest from the lower leaf through the M of UNUM and to the E of DIME. Series of N/S die scratches through the left side leaves. Curving die scratch through the lower N of UNUM. Die scratch south from the left underside of the horizontal bar of the second T in STATES. Die gouge (dot) between the lower ST of STATES. Reverse Stage B: Stage A markers are gone except the scratch at the N of UNUM.
