1946-S Doubled Working Hub Reverse WWHR-001
Error
Description
Completing the trio of 1946 Roosevelt Dime mints affected by WWHR-001, the San Francisco issue carries an S mintmark and the same Class V clockwise hub doubling visible on Philadelphia and Denver specimens. The pivot point at approximately 11 o'clock produces rotational spread on the E of ONE, DIME, AMERICA, and UNUM — identical in character and degree across all three mints because the doubling was imprinted at the hub stage before any working dies were created. San Francisco's role in 1946 production adds the third data point confirming hub-level origin: if the doubling appeared on only one mint's coins, it could be a die-level anomaly, but its presence across P, D, and S conclusively establishes the hub as the source. Sinnock's design was struck in 90% silver during this first year, and San Francisco would continue producing silver Roosevelt Dimes through 1964 before the composition changed to copper-nickel clad. The inaugural-year S-mint dime holds appeal for collectors assembling complete first-year sets by mintmark. Examine the reverse lettering at the E of ONE, DIME, AMERICA, and UNUM to confirm the clockwise rotational spread inherited from the doubled working hub.
