1946 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-010

Description

1946-S WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The designer's initials and the date's 4 have a very close spread toward the center. The obverse is Type I. In LIBERTY, a scratch runs NE from the T's right center, another runs SW from the Y's left center, and E/W scratches are centered between L and I. The reverse has a Trumpet Tail mint mark and is a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1946-S WDDR-013, with a clockwise (CW) spread pivoting at 11:00 on AMERICA, UNUM, ONE DIME, the leaves on the right and the oak stem. A long scratch runs north from the upper right of the first U in PLURIBUS and crosses the stem of the lower left olive leaf. Scratches run south off that lower left olive leaf and through the olive, and a mass of die chips covers the torch holder where the leaves from both sides touch it. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Its comments say it was formerly WDDO-018 and was renumbered when the doubled obverse working hub, WWHO-001, was found and left large gaps in the listings.
