Description

Paired with DDR-020 on the reverse and carrying Mintmark Style 001 (MMS-001) — the distinctive "Trumpet tail" S mintmark — the 1946-S DDO-014 Roosevelt dime presents a die marriage of considerable variety interest. Medium spread appears on the date, designer's initials (JS) side by side, and IN GOD WE TRUST. This die also bears the Obverse Design Variety 001 (ODV-001) designation, linking it to the earliest Roosevelt obverse hub. Cataloged under UVC-756 / DMR-050 by VarietyVista, die stages show an unusual pattern: both Stage A and Stage B are classified as Early Die State (unconfirmed), suggesting the transition to the next recognizable die state occurred later in this die's life than typical. Stage C reaches Late Die State, identified by a die gouge on the E of LIBERTY, with the reverse also listed as DDR-020 at LDS. The trumpet tail mintmark — where the S features a distinctively curved terminal stroke — provides an additional attribution checkpoint. Collectors seeking this variety will find three independent confirmation points: the obverse doubling, the reverse DDR-020, and the trumpet tail S.
