1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-021

Description

Carrying attribution codes UVC-335 and DMR-023, this 1945-S Jefferson Nickel repunched mintmark is catalogued within the wartime 35% silver alloy series produced at San Francisco. Three die stages are documented. Stage A: early die state, unconfirmed. Stage B: middle die state, unconfirmed. Stage C, the late die state: the reverse enters a worn condition and die scratches appear below IN GOD WE TRUST on the obverse — a late-stage surface feature that emerges after sustained striking polishes away earlier detail. The S mintmark on 1945-S wartime Jefferson Nickels, like all wartime series marks, was placed in an enlarged format above Monticello to facilitate post-war identification and recovery of silver-alloy coins from circulation.
