1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-018

Description

Bearing an S/S/S North, West triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1945-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel from the San Francisco Mint tracks four progressive die states reaching VLDS. Die markers UVC-332 / DMR-020: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack from right dome south between pillar #3 and #4 at LDS, and a die crack across lower bust at LDS; Stage D with reverse at VLDS and a light die crack northwest in hair at VLDS. The triple S/S/S North and West displacement documents three separate punch contacts in two different directions, each creating a distinct secondary mintmark trace. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, Felix Schlag's design carries the oversized S above Monticello. The VLDS Stage D designation indicates extreme late-life production.
