1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-016

Description

An S/S North variety from the San Francisco Mint, this VarietyVista-documented 1945-S wartime silver Jefferson Nickel shares its obverse die with RPM-014b at Stage C, establishing a die linkage between two separately cataloged RPM varieties. Die markers UVC-330 / DMR-018: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with reverse at LDS, same obverse die as RPM-014b at VLDS, a die crack southeast through upper hair, and a die chip in the lower 5 of date. The shared obverse die between RPM-016 Stage C and RPM-014b documents that these two reverse RPM dies were paired with the same obverse during different production runs. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the VLDS designation indicates this obverse operated far beyond normal service limits.
