1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-015

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel tracks five die stages across two die pairings, with an obverse die change introducing a heavily damaged replacement die. Die markers: UVC-329 / DMR-017 for Stages A-D and UVC-494 / DMR-039 for Stage E. Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with reverse and obverse at LDS; Stage D with a die crack left upper building to rim at VLDS and a die crack southwest through upper hair at VLDS; Stage E with reverse at VLDS, obverse die change at VLDS, strong die scratches covering upper hair, and die chips above BE of LIBERTY. The replacement obverse die at Stage E already showing strong scratches and die chips suggests it entered service in a deteriorated condition. Composed of 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm.
