1945-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as RPM-012, this 1945-S wartime silver alloy Jefferson nickel underwent an obverse die change during its production run, resulting in two distinct pairings tracked under separate die marker codes. The initial pairing carries references UVC-325 and DMR-013, while the replacement obverse pairing is tracked as UVC-326 and DMR-014. Stage A at early die state remains unconfirmed. In Stage B the reverse reaches late-to-mid die state, and a die crack develops to the northwest in the hair area, progressing into very late die state. After the original obverse was retired, a fresh obverse was married to the same reverse for Stage C, with the reverse now at late die state and the replacement obverse at mid die state. North-south die scratches on the replacement obverse help distinguish it from the original.
