1944 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1944 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1944 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 2:00 appears on IN GOD WE TRUST, on its outermost letters. Master die doubling appears on Washington's lower ear and on the underside of the nose. On the obverse, just over the queue ribbon there is a small gouge, and another small gouge sits above the second 4 in the date, near the right end of its horizontal crossbar. On the reverse, a gouge lies over the bottom loop of the first S in STATES, gouges lie between the bottoms of the first S and first T of STATES, and a gouge extends southwest off the first T from its upper left. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CDDO-001.
