1944 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1944 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1944 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 1:00 appears on the date, the designer's initials, the lower queue, the LIB of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST. Master die doubling appears on Washington's lower ear and on the underside of the nose. On the obverse, a crack crosses the upper forehead heading east and runs into the hair, and another crosses the bust's base. On the reverse, a crack passes through the middle of the URIBU in PLURIBUS, and a scratch crosses the upper leaves over the ARTE of QUARTER. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
