Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-0513 with die-marriage reference DMR-030, this 1943 (S) Washington Quarter doubled die obverse exhibits light spread on LIBERTY, the star, and the date, with the strongest expression appearing on IN GOD WE TRUST. The concentration of visible doubling on the motto — while other elements show lighter involvement — suggests a hub-doubling event whose angular geometry produced maximum displacement in the upper obverse field. Three die stages have been documented. Stage A represents the early die state, preserving the clearest view of the spread on IN GOD WE TRUST before wear softened the die surface. Stage B shows mid-die state, though confirmation remains pending. Stage C is the late die state, also awaiting confirmation. The 1943-S Washington Quarter was produced at the San Francisco Mint during the height of wartime coinage demand, when silver quarters remained in standard 90% silver composition even as the nickel denomination shifted to its emergency alloy.
