Description

DDO-019 on the 1943-S Washington Quarter exhibits a medium spread on LIBERTY, making the obverse legend the primary area of doubling interest. The quarter was struck in 90% silver at the San Francisco Mint during World War II. Die markers are catalogued under UVC-0369 and DMR-020 in the VarietyVista reference. Three die stages are documented: Stage A is Early Die State, though currently unconfirmed; Stage B is Middle Die State, also unconfirmed at present; Stage C advances to Late Die State and is defined by die cracks across the bust, across the hair, and extending from the right wing to the Q of QUARTER — an extensive cracking pattern that spread across multiple design elements as the die approached the end of its usable life. The progressive die cracking documented in Stage C makes the late-die-state examples visually distinct from earlier strikes. Cross-reference: VarietyVista DDO-019, UVC-0369, DMR-020.
