Description

Cataloged as UVC-0363 and DMR-014 in the VarietyVista system, the 1943-S Washington Quarter DDO-013 exhibits medium spread on RTY of LIBERTY with a one-quarter vertical bar and the ribbon end. Struck in 90% silver, the standard composition for pre-1965 Washington Quarters, this variety's die stage progression documents three stages: Stage A is an unconfirmed early die state. Stage B advances to mid-die-state with a die crack across the bust and a die crack down the eagle's right wing. Stage C places both obverse and reverse at late die state. The partial LIBERTY spread, concentrated on the RTY portion with its distinctive quarter vertical bar, provides a focused diagnostic area rather than the broad-spread pattern seen on many Washington Quarter doubled dies. The ribbon end doubling adds a secondary confirmation point below the main LIBERTY diagnostic zone.
