Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team, this 1941 Washington Quarter exhibits a very strong spread to the north on IN GOD WE TRUST and the underside of Washington's nose, producing one of the more visually dramatic doubled die obverses in the pre-1965 Washington Quarter series. Cross-referenced as CONECA 3-O-V and Cherrypickers' Guide FS-25-1941-101 (012.7), this variety benefits from multiple catalog listings that ensure broad collector recognition. Die cracks run through the forehead and hair on the obverse and continue across the bust, while a separate die crack traces through PLURIBUS to the eagle's wing on the reverse, documenting progressive die deterioration on both sides. Struck in 90% silver (0.7734 oz ASW), the 1941 Washington Quarter was produced in substantial quantities at Philadelphia as the nation's economy ramped up in the pre-war period. The northward spread on WDDO-007 is especially pronounced on the motto letters, where the secondary image sits noticeably above the primary impression.
