1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1941-D Washington Silver Quarter from the Denver Mint carries the 8th cataloged repunched D mintmark for the date, struck in the last full pre-war production year. Die markers UVC-0929 / DMR-025 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack from upper IBUS to wing at LDS, a die crack down the right wing, a die crack from the right stem through lower leaves, and obverse at MDS. The three concurrent reverse die cracks at Stage C, spanning the inscription, wing, and wreath areas, document extensive structural failure across the reverse die. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm. The 1941-D was produced the year before the U.S. entered WWII, after which wartime demands affected coinage production.
