1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Cataloged as RPM-005 (UVC-0204, DMR-020), this 1941-D Washington quarter shows the D mintmark repunched south of its original position (D/D South). Three die stages track the variety. Stage A is the earliest confirmed state with supplementary markers unconfirmed. Stage B places both sides in mid-die-state. Stage C introduces prominent cracks: one extending eastward from the eagle's head on the reverse, another crossing the upper hair on the obverse, and a third running across the bust into the queue. Repunched mintmarks on early Washington quarters are actively collected because the series was in its first decade and each die received its mintmark by hand punch. The Washington silver quarter series 1932-1964 was struck in 90% silver, giving even common dates precious metal value while die varieties add numismatic premiums. Examine the mintmark area behind the eagle for the southward secondary D, then check for Stage C cracks to determine progression.
