1941-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1941-D Washington Silver Quarter from the Denver Mint shows extensive die cracking at the MDS stage across both obverse and reverse faces. Die markers UVC-0202 / DMR-018 track three stages: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EMDS; Stage B at MDS with light die cracks on the wing under UNITED, from O of OF to the wing, across the forehead and hair, and across the bust; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The four simultaneous Stage B die cracks spanning both faces document a die pair under significant structural stress at mid-life. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1941-D was produced during the final pre-war year as the United States was on the cusp of entering World War II. The obverse cracking pattern across Washington's forehead and bust traces the portrait's highest-relief areas.
