Description
1940-D WDDO-010 is a doubled die obverse on the 1940-D Mercury dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling, a very close Class II spread toward the center, is on the date and the LIB of LIBERTY. On the obverse, a short NNW/SSE die gouge sits under the E in WE. A die crack also heads NNE from the rim near 6:30 and enters the bust at its base. On the reverse, a die gouge lies between the M and E in DIME. Thomas McGowan submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
