Reassigned after the original listing proved to be a lower-grade specimen of WDDO-001, this Wexler-attributed 1940-D Mercury Dime WDDO-006 is a replacement entry establishing a genuinely separate doubled die. The reassignment preserves catalog continuity. The doubling presents as a Class II centripetal spread on the date, where hub distortion pushes design elements toward the center. Two short die scratches running from the lower O to the lower F in OF on the reverse serve as die markers, providing independent confirmation of the working die. No significant obverse die markers have been documented beyond the doubling. The distinction between WDDO-006 and WDDO-001 is important for attributors: both show obverse doubling on a 1940-D Mercury Dime, but the die markers and specific characteristics differ. Adolph Weinman's Winged Liberty obverse appears on this Denver Mint regular strike in 90% silver at 2.5 grams.
