1939-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Holding the primary catalog position for the 1939-S date, this VarietyVista-documented San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent records a reverse die change and extensive wheat-stalk cracking. Die markers span two pairings: UVC-075 / DMR-002 for Stage A with obverse at EDS and reverse at MDS; Stage B with a die crack on the forehead at MDS, die cracks in left wheat grains at LDS, die cracks in right wheat grains, and a die crack in right wheat lines. Then UVC-076 / DMR-003: Stage C with the forehead die crack extending to the back of the hair at LDS and the reverse die changed at EDS; Stage D with obverse at VLDS and reverse at MDS. The multiple wheat stalk cracks at Stage B followed by a fresh reverse at Stage C shows the original reverse was retired due to structural failure while the RPM obverse continued. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
